FAQs
We help artists and other rights holders access upfront cash for their music royalties. Our team brings deep expertise in both the music and finance industries to assess opportunities across multiple royalty investors, ensuring we secure a competitive deal tailored to your needs.
Any music rights holder can be eligible for funding, including artists, labels, publishers, and distributors, as long as they are actively earning royalties from their catalog. We look at your historical royalty income to determine eligibility.
You may qualify for a royalty advance if your catalog is generating at least $3,000 per year in annual royalty income. We evaluate each artist individually based on their historical earnings, catalog performance, and distribution setup.
Yes. We offer the same flexible royalty advance solutions to labels, publishers, distributors, and other rights holders that we provide to artists.
A royalty investor provides an upfront cash advance in exchange for a pre-agreed share of your royalties, which they collect until the advance is recouped. You retain full ownership of your masters and all other income streams, including sync and merch. There is no interest, and it does not impact your credit because it is not a loan.
To receive an offer, we need your royalty sales data, including 18 months of streaming data in CSV or Excel format, or the last 8 quarters of publishing data in both CSV and PDF format. We also require copies of any relevant management, distribution, or other music-related contracts, as well as access to your Spotify for Artists account.
We can advance against all types of royalty streams, including streaming, publishing, sync, and neighboring rights. Anything earning works.
Yes, you can stay with your current distributor. However, artists who move to RTHM Distribution are often able to receive a larger advance.
Yes. If your catalog meets a certain threshold for monthly earnings, you may qualify for a distribution deal. In that case, RTHM will pay you to switch from your current distributor to RTHM Distribution.
A recoupment rate is the percentage of your royalties that is applied toward paying back your advance, paid to the royalty investor until their upfront investment has been fully recouped. Once recoupment is complete, your royalties revert back to you in full.
Post-recoupment terms describe what happens after the royalty investor has fully recouped their advance. Some companies continue to collect a share of your royalties even after recoupment. At RTHM, we do not. Once recoupment is complete, your royalties revert back to you in full, and we will never take more than you agreed to repay.
Deals are typically structured around estimated terms of 1, 3, or 5 years, though longer timelines can be used in certain cases. These timeframes are only projections based on how long it may take to repay the recoupment amount. There is no fixed end date. If you recoup early, your deal ends early, and if recoupment takes longer than expected, that is not an issue.
Yes. You can get out of your deal early at any time by paying back your outstanding recoupment amount. Unlike many other companies, we do not charge early buyout fees, penalties, or additional costs. You simply pay back exactly what you still owe, not a dollar more.
Most artists recoup their advance by the end of the agreed term, and often sooner, which is how our deals are structured. If your royalties do not fully repay the advance within the term, the royalty investor will continue collecting until the original amount is fully recouped, with no additional fees, interest, or penalties. You will never owe more than what you agreed to.
RTHM offers industry-competitive recoupment rates, meaning artists pay back less overall. Our deals are truly vanilla and artist-friendly, so if you recoup early you are out of your deal early, and if recoupment takes longer there are no penalties or extra fees. We also provide flexible deal structures across royalties, distribution, and marketing, with the ability to choose flow-through income or buy out at any time at no additional cost. Most importantly, we never collect post-recoupment. Once you have paid back what you agreed to, the deal simply ends.
Yes. We simply need to confirm the percentage of master royalties you are entitled to on each track and ensure we are properly set up with the distributor that handles the payouts.
No. We are happy to advance funds against your back catalog. However, artists can potentially increase their advance if they plan to release new music in the next 6 to 12 months.
If you are already working with an indie label or artist services company you trust, you can absolutely still receive funding from RTHM. We value the role these partners play in supporting artists. As long as they are open to collaboration, we can structure a deal that includes them. When your team helps elevate your career, it benefits you, your partners, and the investors we work with. Our goal is to create funding arrangements that work for everyone involved.
No problem. We are not here to stand in your way. RTHM’s standard agreements include a pre-set buyout option that allows you to exit early if a major opportunity arises. The buyout amount is calculated using a clear, upfront formula based on what you have already repaid, the revenue your music has generated during the term, and the remaining time in your deal. There are no surprises or negotiations, just flexibility designed to support your growth.
You will be paid within 7 business days after the royalty streams have been secured and set up to flow to RTHM, not on the day the contract is signed.
We work with any and all genres. Classical, Trap, EDM, Jazz, Christian Pop, Prog Rock, Canadian Country, K-Pop, Hip Hop, Dance, Pop, Assyrian Folk, Latin Rap, Sufi, Deep Trance, Ranchera, Bhajan, Norwegian Death Metal, and more. Anything earning works.
Not exactly. Our offers themselves are not negotiable, but you can adjust key deal parameters to fit your goals. This includes the length of the term, the scope of works included such as catalog only or catalog plus future releases, and the percentage of income you keep before your advance is repaid.
Reach out to us. We may be able to figure out a way to work with your label or distributor.
No. This is not a loan, and it does not affect your credit score. You are not required to make any other payments during the term of the deal.
No. You are fully able to manage everything on your own.
Yes. Please visit rthmdistribution.com for more information.
Yes. We offer something called a PR service uplift, an option that allows artists to receive comprehensive marketing and promotional services without paying cash upfront. In exchange, a percentage of the artist’s net royalties is allocated to cover the cost of those services.
